ALPENA COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal ATV crash that happened Friday night in Alpena County.
On Friday, Dec. 6 around 8:20 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post responded to an ATV crash on Cousineau Road near Duncan Road in Green Township. When troopers arrived, first-responders were administering CPR.
Troopers say the investigation revealed the ATV, a side-by-side, slid into a ditch and the 51-year-old male driver was ejected. The ATV then rolled on top of him. The 51-year-old male passenger was unable to lift the ATV from on top of the driver and went for help.
A nearby neighbor assisted with righting the ATV and freeing the driver, according to troopers. Alpena City EMS arrived to the location and pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. The passenger received no injuries from the crash.
The driver was from Mount Morris, and the uninjured passenger from Lachine.
Troopers believe alcohol and icy road conditions are contributing factor to the crash.
