People living in Alden Towers apartments on Detroit's east side had been living without electricity since late Tuesday afternoon. And they were dreading the hot temperatures that are predicted for this weekend.
7 Action News has been told that about 600 people live in the four buildings affected.
Alden Towers, which is located on East Jefferson near Van Dyke, is managed by Village Green. The property management company took over in late April.
The electrical issues that caused the recent outage at the apartments were due to problems related to DTE's system as well as the apartment's internal electrical equipment.
It began when a primary DTE line malfunctioned. Customers in the area continued to receive electricity through the power company's secondary line. But a problem with the internal electrical system at Alden Towers would not allow the power from DTE backup line to feed through.
Thankfully, by Friday afternoon, DTE was able to make the necessary repairs to their primary line and power to the building was restored.
Village Green's Diane Batayeh tells 7 Action News that they are working to resolve the building's internal electrical issues so if DTE has to conduct maintenance or make additional repairs to their primary line, they will be able to provide electricity to their residents via DTE's secondary system.
