ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — “Everybody wants to make a difference. That’s what we noticed. Every human being,” said Mark Essick from GoIMPACT360.

Mark Essick is a Minister at Southpoint Church in Allen Park.

“We want to be a church for the community, not just in it,” said Essick.

He started the downriver non-profit - Goimpact360, a group serving the community by doing fall cleanup for those not able to do it themselves.

“When you put the needs of others ahead of yourself, there’s a large return,” said Essick.

What started out as a group of 50 students raking leaves for senior citizens has turned into a movement.

“They want to go and help and do some kind of physical job for someone who is in real need, but they always come back, not tired but happy,” said Essick.

Last year, they cleaned up 50 houses and had 600 volunteers. This year 75 people have reached out for help.

“We were the young people that came in and now we’re the people that need help,” said Allen Park resident Linda Fisher.

Linda and Vern Fisher moved to their Allen Park home in 1975.

“So it really was just helpful because we physically weren’t able to do it. He had some heart issues and I had had some health issues, said Fisher.

Starting in mid-November the team will start raking the leaves and now is the time to sign up or nominate someone in your community.

“And it just is nice to have it turn around and come back. It just helps so much, and it let us know that people cared,” said Fisher.

“The more yards we get, the more volunteers we need, and we’ve never broken that 100 yards barrier. Maybe this is the year,” said Essick.
