(WXYZ) — A 7-year-old girl who was shot in the head during a drive-by on Wednesday has died, 7 Action News has learned.
"They all ran outside screaming for help," said a woman who did not want to be identified but tried to help a neighbor's 7-year-old daughter after someone opened fire on the family's house on Bedford near Bremer on Detroit's east side.
The shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday as the girl was sitting on a couch in her home.
Detroit police said someone in a dark colored sedan circled the area before driving up and firing shots into the house.
A bullet struck the girl, Reginae Williams, in the back of the head. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died.
"She was such a sweet, sweet beautiful baby doing nothing but being in her home with her family, sleeping," her mother, Etosha Williams, said.
"You would want somebody to speak up and tell what happened to your loved one," she said. "If you know something, please say something because I have to bury my 7-year-old baby. I'll never get to touch her or see her again."
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he strongly believes the "violent" suspects will be brought into custody, asking for help from the community.
Relatives have organized a GoFundMe page to help Reginae's mother with the burial costs.
Police are asking anyone in the area who has surveillance cameras on their home or business to look for possible images of the shooter or the vehicle.
And anyone with information or images is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Task Force at 313-596-2260 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
