Oakland County deputies are investigating a submerged vehicle incident that caused the death of a 74-year-old man and his two dogs in Oxford Township Thursday.
Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had run off the road, into a pond and was reportedly sinking in the area of East Lakeville Road and Barr Road.
At the scene, deputies saw the driver floating in the water and a bystander trying to help the 74-year-old man out of the pond.
Authorities were able to get both the driver and bystander out of the water, but discovered the driver was not breathing and turning blue.
Deputies administered CPR until ambulances arrived to the scene.
The 74-year-old man was then taken to Ascension-Crittenton Hospital where he passed away the following day.
Police say the man had his two dogs in the car when the vehicle went into the pond. The pets were pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unclear what caused the man to drive into the pond. Police have not released further details.
The investigation is ongoing.
