ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — St. Clair County deputies are investigating an aircraft crash near Marine City Airport Friday night.

An 82-year-old Clay Township man was injured when the aircraft he was piloting crashed as he tried to land at the airport around 9:51 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office.

The crash was north of Arnold Road behind a private residence.

Police say the pilot was overdue having left from Pontiac and was discovered by a family member using a phone locator app.

Ira Township Fire extricated the 82-year-old from the aircraft and took him to a local hospital.

He told deputies the last thing he remembered was that he lost power before landing.

No update on the man's condition as of Saturday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
