DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Public Safety Foundation hosted the 2020 Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony Thursday evening.
This year’s event was held virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The annual ceremony honors Detroit's first-responders. Twenty-four police officers and 11 firefighters were recognized, recounting incredible stories of service.
Firefighter Kenneth Williams rescued two children from a burning home. Police Corporal Jose Martinez and three of his partners received the Medal of Valor for saving a young woman from falling onto the freeway.
First-responders say they're grateful to the Detroit Public Safety Foundation for putting the work into the virtual ceremony.
