FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A barricaded gunman situation ended in Ferndale overnight with the suspected gunman dead.

Police gave the all clear around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday and the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

The suspected gunman was found with a gunshot wound, but police are still investigating whether it was self-inflicted.

Several police agencies were called to the scene after shots were fired inside the Ferndale Housing Commission apartment building late Tuesday afternoon.

Residents who live and work in the area were asked to shelter indoors for hours.

The incident happened in the area of Planavon and Withington, which is north of Nine Mile Road and West of Woodward Avenue.

According to police, a 70-year-old fired shots at another person in the hallway of the building. No one was injured.

When police arrived, they were able to contain the shooter in one area of the building on the southwest corner.

Most of the tenants inside the building were evacuated.

Ferndale police say they will update the public with more information as it becomes available.
