Police say a man fired shots out of an apartment in Highland Park Tuesday evening then barricaded himself inside.
The standoff ended around midnight, with police taking one person into custody.
During the standoff, the apartment complex was evacuated.
The incident occurred near Hamilton and Grand.
The Highland Park chief of police says a man and his mother were involved in a domestic dispute. The mother left the home then the son took a gun and fired five to six shots out of the window of the apartment.
There were no injuries as a result of the gunfire.
Police asked residents to "shelter in place" while they worked to resolve the situation.
A special response team was assembled to defuse the situation, police say.
