Only five restaurants in the country have been named as recipients of the 2016 James Beard Foundation America’s Classics award. Al-Ameer in Dearborn is one of them.
A James Beard award is considered the Oscars of the food world. It’s the highest honor for food and beverage professionals in the country.
"It definitely is a big deal. It's like the Oscars of food so it's recognition of all your hard work," says Abbas Ammar, manager.
“I think it’s a very nice honor for Detroit and for the area to have a restaurant recognized for that award,” says customer Al Attee.
Al-Ameer is going to be honored at the James Beard award ceremony on May 2 in Chicago.
