Alleged intoxicated driver hits police cruiser while trying to flee from officers

OAKLAND CO., MicH. (WXYZ) — An alleged intoxicated driver attempted to flee from police but was stopped when he hit another police cruiser head on in Bloomfield Township.

The incident happened Jan. 24 around 9:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Friendly Dr.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle, according to a release. When officers arrived, the 58-year-old driver from Pontiac accelerated his vehicle trying to flee from the scene. The driver then hit head-on, another patrol vehicle that was arriving to the scene.

Suspect attempts to flee police in Bloomfield Township

The alleged intoxicated driver was treated on the scene, police say, and taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. The officer whose vehicle was hit was also treated at the scene and then released.

Police say the driver admitted to being under the influence of narcotics. He's expected to be charged once toxicology reports are returned.
