Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, Amazon and other online stores will start collecting sales tax on all purchases.
This comes after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed laws in January that forced buyers to pay sales tax online.
Named, "Main Street Fairness" laws, they ensure roughly $60 million a year in taxes on Internet and other out-of-state purchases are collected.
Shoppers are supposed to voluntarily pay sales taxes on remote purchases when filing their Michigan tax returns, but very few comply.
Ty Rogers, spokesman for Amazon, said the company will still offer low prices with or without sales tax.
