DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are investigating an accident involving an ambulance on Detroit's west side.

It happened at James Couzens and McNichols.

Police say the EMS unit was hit by another vehicle and rolled over while transporting a patient who was suffering from smoke inhalation to Detroit Receiving Hospital. The patient had been injured in a fire on Stahalin on the city's west side.

The patient was taken to the hospital from the crash scene by another unit and is expected to survive.

Two medics and a firefighter were also in the unit when it rolled over. They were taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital and have since been treated and released.

The status of the patient who suffered from smoke inhalation is still unknown.
