After extending the program over Memorial Day, Art Van Furniture is bringing back its American flag exchange program for Labor Day.

Customers throughout the Midwest can bring in their worn, American flags and trade them in for a new 3-foot-by-5-foot flag at no cost. The exchange will happen from Friday, Aug. 24 through Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Since its inception last year, the program has exchanged more than 16,000 flags and has set a goal of distributing 20,000.

“It has been an extremely humbling and uplifting experience to place new flags in the hands of our customers and to share in their pride for our great country,” said Ron Boire, president and CEO of Art Van Furniture. “We have had the privilege of connecting with thousands of families in a profound way.”

The old American flags are then disposed of in accordance with the United States Flag Code.

The flags can be exchanged at any showroom in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri.
