Meals and memories will be created this month as metro Detroiters come together as part of Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV/Channel 7's eighth annual 'Together We Can' food drive! The event will run from November 1 through November 23.
The annual fundraiser will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The collection will take place at Art Van Furniture stores throughout metro Detroit, including the Ann Arbor, Flint, Port Huron and Howell locations.
The Midwest's number one furniture and mattress retailer and WXYZ are asking community members to donate nonperishable food items to Gleaners in an effort to help the nonprofit in its mission to end hunger across Southeastern Michigan. Items that are in high demand this holiday season include canned tuna, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, and baby food and formula. Last year, Art Van Furniture and WXYZ collected a total of 10,107 pounds of packaged and canned food that served approximately 8,423 meals to hungry families and individuals throughout the region.
With one in six people in Michigan facing the struggle of hunger, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan has made it their mission to feed the hungry across Metro Detroit for over 38 years. Last year alone, Gleaners distributed over 34 million pounds of emergency food last year to over 500 soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties.
