(WXYZ) — Question: The cause and manner of death is still being investigated, but what do you think these people potentially died from?
This is very tragic news hearing of these two deaths. As to what they died from, it’s very possible hypothermia was the cause. Once you’re outside, your body begins protecting itself. It moves blood flow away from your fingers and toes because it wants to protect your brain and internal organs. If you’re outside for a short amount of time, this typically isn’t an issue for healthy adults. But if you’re out for a prolonged period of time, your organs can struggle to produce enough heat and work properly. Hypothermia sets in once your body temp dips below 95 degrees Fahrenheit. And this can lead to death.
Question: If you were cold, why wouldn’t you go inside or find help?
Hypothermia can slow down your brain activity. You can suffer from confusion and fatigue which can lead to making poor decisions. Also, you don’t have to be outside to suffer from hypothermia. This can happen indoors too if there isn’t adequate heating. So please check in on our loved ones, especially those who are elderly, and anyone with mental health issues.
