DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting of a young woman in Detroit Friday.

On July 3 around 7:20 p.m., a 19-year-old victim was a passenger in a Ford Expedition in the area of Joy and Birwood when someone in a black SUV fired shots, striking the victim, police say.

According to police, the woman was fatally shot.

That woman is just one of at least nine youths have been shot in the past week.

A vigil was held last Saturday for a 19-year-old man from Detroit who went missing last week and was found dead last Friday evening. Darius Jones Jr. was last seen around 4 p.m. on June 21 in the 11800 block of Elmdale on Detroit's east side. His body was found wrapped in carpet in a vacant house on June 26 around 8:15 p.m. on that same street.

On July 4 around 12:55 a.m., the victim's vehicle – a white Dodge Durango – was traveling on 8300 block of Homer Street. Police say as the vehicle pulled over, it is alleged that three unknown cars past them and someone inside one of the passing cars began firing shots, striking all five passengers in the white Dodge Durango.

According to police, a 39-year-old woman was fatally wounded, while four male victims – ages 9, 12, 15 and 40 – were treated for non-fatal injuries. A GoFundMe was set up for the family.
