A 49-year-old Ann Arbor man is dead after his BMW was found overturned in a shallow pond in Freedom Township.
A truck driver spotted the wheels sticking up out of the water as he traveled near rural Pleasant Lake Road near Parker Road around 9:15 a.m. Monday.
Washtenaw County Sheriff investigators say it appears the man had been speeding westbound on Pleasant Lake Road and failed to stop at a stop sign where the road ends at Parker Road.
Freedom Township is west of Ann Arbor where the man worked at the University of Michigan. His name has not yet been released pending notifications to relatives.
Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol or a medical condition contributed to the crash.
After notifying the victim's wife, she reportedly told investigators that her husband didn't come home Sunday night. It's unclear when he crashed as there are no reported witnesses.
The roads had been closed Monday morning into the early afternoon, but they are now back open.
