Avoid opening fire hydrants for recreational use, Hamtramck Firefighters say

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Hamtramck firefighters are reminding the public to avoid opening fire hydrants for recreational use.

Video shows young children and adults playing in a flooded street as what appears to be a hydrant spouting water.

According to Hamtramck Firefighters, firefighter Motyl jumped into the makeshift pool to cool off before crew shut off the hydrant.

Metro Detroit has been experiencing a heat wave with temps in the 90s. By the middle of July, taking into account our current forecast, metro Detroit will be on pace for the hottest July on record.
