(WXYZ) — The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a tug and barge that ran aground Monday in American waters near Peche Island in Lake St. Clair.
Officials say the barge ran aground on a soft mud bottom on April 13 carrying 3,990,000 gallons of diesel fuel, which is the barge's max potential.
The Coast Guard says there is no hazardous substance entering the waterway, no suspected damage and no reported injuries.
Multiple personnel are working to refloat the vessel.
The Coast Guard is coordinating response efforts with Canadian maritime officials to monitor salvage operations.
Officials say the cause of the grounding is under investigation.
