Figurines sold in a metro Detroit dollar store were removed from the shelves Tuesday after several customers complained of racial undertones.

The figurines some have found offensive were being sold at the Super Dollar Center in Lincoln Park. The statues depict a white cherub with armor and a sword stepping on the head of a black cherub with horns. It appears to be depicting Archangel Michael defeating Satan.

While some people don’t have a problem with it -- the fact that the white cherub’s foot is on the black cherub’s head is rubbing some people the wrong way.

“It has a racial undertone and why does the baby have to be black,” said Reniqa G. “If they wanted to portray a message they could have been the same color-- so to me it's almost like blacks are inferior.”

A customer who noticed the figurines last week took a picture and called the store to ask if they’d remove them from the shelves. When WXYZ went to the store on Dix Highway Tuesday, the figurines were still on the shelves.

The store owner told WXYZ they meant to take the figurines down last week, but got busy with the holidays. They were removed while WXYZ crews were there.

“Racial? I'm not sure. I just don't like the look of it,” said customer Karmen Curry.
