The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a bear under a vehicle in Suttons Bay Township Tuesday morning.

Deputies arrived to the scene to see a small black bear underneath a black 2011 Ford pickup truck. The driver, a 58-year-old woman, had been driving southbound on South Center Highway -- south of Eckerle Road -- when the bear ran out into the road.

Officers say the driver tried to stop, but the bear when under the vehicle. The bear appeared to be alive under the truck.

A deputy then maneuvered the pickup truck slowly back and forth and drive away from the animal. The black bear was checked by an Animal Control deputy at the scene and released back into the woods.

The driver was not injured, and the vehicle had no damage.
