BLISSFIELD TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) — Blissfield and Madison township fire departments are mourning the death of one of their own who died while responding to a structure fire on Nov. 17.
Blissfield Township fire captain, Joseph "Joe" Gallo, died from injuries sustained in a car crash as he was responding to a fire in Deerfield Township.
Gallo, who has been a part of the department since 2014 and was promoted to captain in 2017, was traveling in his own vehicle to the fire when he was involved in a crash.
"He was always 'that guy,' the one you knew you could count on," said Blissfield Township Fire Chief Dale Fruchey.
Gallo also worked for the Madison Township fire department, and was hired in October 2018.
He's survived by his parents and one brother. Funeral arrangements are pending.
