MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Macomb County Sheriff's Office released dramatic footage of first responders on the scene of a massive apartment fire in Mt. Clemens on Saturday.
The fire at River North Village Apartments happened around 11:30 p.m. Several people were injured as flames engulfed a 22-unit, two and a half story building.
Residents were forced to jump from upper unit windows to escape the flames.
The fire was first spotted by a deputy on patrol who noticed the smoke from a distance.
“I am proud of the job that all of the first responders did to get these residents to safety," said Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. "I urge all of our citizens to set up a safety plan for emergencies and to review and practice these plans with your family and neighbors. Property can be repurchased but a life can not be replaced.”
There was a multi-agency response to the fire, including Mt. Clemens, Harrison Township, Macomb Township, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, Roseville, and Selfridge ANG Base.
Several families were displaced due to the fire.
