PORT HURON (WXYZ) — Border officers in Port Huron seized over a half ton of marijuana from a Trash Hauler attempting to cross Blue Water Bridge.
The driver of the hauler told U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers he was heading to a landfill in New Boston, Michigan. The driver was directed by an officer to undergo a secondary examination before proceeding. That's when officers uncovered over 1,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in trash bags in the back of the trash hauler.
“Traffickers will use any means to attempt to transport illegal narcotics across our borders,” said Acting Port Director April Donaghy, who oversees operations at the Port Huron Area Port of Entry. “Our officers are highly trained to spot inconsistencies, and I’m proud of their actions leading to such a significant seizure.”
The Detroit Field Office says its seen a significant increase in narcotics seized at the border over the past 12 months.
