MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police are investigating a vehicle crash outside of a DTE power plant in Monroe.
On Aug. 4 around 8:15 a.m., the Monroe City Police Department responded to a traffic crash on E. Front St., near the entrance to the DTE power plant.
It was reported that a vehicle had left the roadway and entered the water, police say.
Upon arrival, responding officers found the vehicle had struck a fence and come to rest in a retention reservoir of the DTE plant.
The vehicle was found completely submerged and not visible to officers on scene, and the driver was believed to still be in the vehicle.
The MPD Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Dive Team also responded to the scene to assist in locating and recovering the vehicle and driver.
Due to the condition of the water and location of the incident, recovery efforts are currently ongoing.
