DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 50-year-old man is recovering after being carjacked and shot in the face in Detroit.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday outside a gas station on Dexter near Collingwood.

Abraham Almaisari owns the gas station and says his customer walked outside back to his SUV and was approached by two guys.

Soon after that, he heard a gunshot and ran outside. The victim, who police say is a 50-year-old man, was shot in the face.

The suspects took off in his SUV and remarkably, the victim was able to get back up on his feet.

"They got what they wanted... I don't know why they'd shoot an innocent guy," Almaisari said.

He says he and his employees rushed to his side and did whatever they could to apply pressure to his face to stop the bleeding.

"I was trying to calm him down," Almaisari said. "He called his wife. I don't know how he did that especially after a gunshot to the face."

Detroit police say the stolen 1999 black Isuzu truck was found in southwest Detroit around 4 a.m., but they're still searching for the suspects.

Almaisari says the victim told him he didn't resist when he was approached by the suspects.

"They asked him for money, he was checking his pockets," Almaisari said. "He gave his wallet. Even when we came out, he kept saying, 'why? why? why? why?'"

Almaisari says the victim's daughter came by the gas station on Friday to thank him and said that her dad had surgery and is doing better.
