DETROIT (WXYZ) — Although the 2020 Detroit Grand Prix, which takes place yearly on Belle Island, was caneled due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced the winner of the 2020 official poster and how the artwork will help COVID-19 relief efforts.
College of Creative Studies junior Everett Robinson II won the official poster contest. Now fans of the event who won't be able to attend this year can pre-order the poster online. All net proceeds will go to COVID-relief efforts, event organizers announced Thursday.
“It is definitely a strange time right now so hopefully this provides a little bit of escapism,” Robinson said. “(The design) takes me back to when I was driving with my father on Belle Isle so maybe it will help bring back some good memories of the race.”
Judges say the 20-year-old's colorful design and dynamic graphics caught their attention, which is why his work was chosen from five designs submitted by students in the Digital Illustration class at CCS.
The second place student winner is CCS junior Josh Rose, and third place went o junior Ziyao Liu.
The official poster is expected to ship in May through Grand Prix merchandise partner Made in Detroit, and will cost $25. The posters are limited. You can pre-order at www.madeindetroit.com or click here.
