CHESTERFIELD TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) — The Chesterfield Township Police Department is throwing one New Year's Eve party no one should want to attend.
In a comical, yet serious, Facebook post the department said it's hosting an "invitation only" event for people who decide to drink and drive on New Year's Eve. It's an exclusive event "in the lockup facilities" at the Chesterfield Township police station, and the cost is a whopping $5,000 or more to attend.
This is the fourth year for the event and unlike most other NYE parties that will take place Dec. 31, this one won't have a guest DJ, or a view of the ball drop, or any hors d'oeuvres. However, invitees will receive an official escort by officers to a jail cell.
The Facebook post was a well–received warning to those who plan to ring in the new year with a few drinks while out on the town. The comments section of the post garnered a few funny memes, so hopefully residents take heed.
If you do decide to go out and drink, there are some metro Detroit companies that are offering reimbursements for taxi, Uber and Lyft rides, as well as free tow services. Find out more here.
