DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 6-year-old boy has died after a rollover crash on Detroit's west side Monday evening.

Police were called to the area of Joy Road and Artesian at about 6:30 p.m. on several reports of a crash.

A 33-year old woman was driving with four children – ages 2, 3, 6, 7– in a white GMC Yukon eastbound on Joy, when she struck a black GMC Yukon, causing the rollover accident. The black GMC Yukon was driven by a 33-year-old man who was going north on Artesian.

The 6-year-old boy – and passenger in the white Yukon – was ejected from the vehicle and fatally injured. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The other occupants of the vehicle, along with the driver of the black Yukon, were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All are expected to recover.

Police say the female driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment and taken into custody.

DPD says that a warrant has been submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review against the female driver responsible for the crash.
