It is the season of giving. Like so many businesses, here at WXYZ, every year we have a giving tree. The gifts are donated to the Children’s Center’s Holiday shop.
“The high majority of our families wouldn’t be able to provide the holiday experience without a program like this. So you see families coming together to have this experience changes the children’s lives for the better,” said Jon Carolin, Volunteer Engagement Manager at the Children's Center.
Because of donations from individuals, organizations, and businesses the 2017 Holiday Shop was the most successful in recorded history, serving 1,685 children. This year the center expects to serve even more.
“We service children who may have suffered abuse, trauma, neglect. We have foster care services, adoption services. Our kids are really in a situation where they need that extra hand. They need someone to be their champion. To give them that smile on Christmas morning that they wouldn’t have otherwise is so important. It is so huge,” said Carolin.
If you feel inspired to take part and make a donation to the Holiday Shop they still are accepting any donation. They have a special need for diapers, blankets and scarves, or gifts for teenagers.
