City of Detroit calls in contractor to replace hazardous sidewalks

Posted

"It was really frustrating and now I'm really happy," says Steve Smith, who lives in Warrendale on Detroit's west side.

Smith and his neighbors have been frustrated with some segments of their sidewalks that are badly buckled because of large tree roots.

But late this week, the city of Detroit called contractors out to replace the dangerous sidewalks on Minock Street.

Action News learned about the issue after William Eckel posted a video on Facebook in which he highlighted the problem.

The city recently began a three-year project to replace 250,000 damaged slabs of sidewalk in Detroit.

Some sidewalks may be replaced sooner than others if they are considered to be very dangerous to navigate.
