Civil rights activist and former Detroit City Council member Nicholas Hood Sr. has died, according to family members.
Hood Sr. was 92 years old.
Hood Sr. was also the pastor of Emeritus of Plymouth United Church of Christ.
Facebook posts by his sons, Nicholas Hood III and Steve Hood, confirm their father's passing.
Nicholas Hood Sr. served on city council for 28 years.
He was instrumental in developing the first church sponsored charter school in Michigan.
He was also a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference which fought for civil rights in the south.
