(WXYZ) — Students at Central Michigan University are pushing for a change to how they can use their meal plans.

An online petition is circling, calling for the university to allow people to donate meals from their plans to other students. This policy has been in place for 20 years.

Right now, using someone else's card to get meals could result in a $25 fine and possible confiscation of the card.

"Rather than seeing students use their unused or wanted meal swipes for good, they are choosing profit," the petition says.

The petition has over 4,000 signatures.
