(WXYZ) — Getting ready for another big change coming our way! A cold front will barrel through the area tonight bringing rain and fog ahead of it, high winds with it and a blast of arctic air behind it.
Here are the details:
Rain showers will taper off by 9 or 10 p.m. and the dense fog will disperse as the cold front passes through metro Detroit.
Winds will increase dramatically as the strong cold front moves through with gusts of 40 to 45 mph possible. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of southeast Michigan from 7 PM this evening until 10 AM Friday. Watch for the possibility of power outages as the winds strengthen tonight.
Temperatures will plummet quickly behind the front, so the mild evening air will be very short-lived. Temperatures will likely rise to near 50 degrees before crashing in just a few hours causing a flash freeze. By sunrise, our temperatures will already be down to near 20° with wind chills near zero. Watch out for black ice tonight and Friday morning with this quick drop in temperatures.
Friday will be cold, windy with scattered lake effect snow showers streaming across state from Lake Michigan. The next chance for snow arrives Sunday. We will be monitoring this next system through the weekend.
