It's a "fun run" that's gaining popularity.

The Color Run comes to four Michigan cities this year, including Ypsilanti.

It's dubbed the "Happiest 5K on the a planet" but some people are not happy about the event.

The annual event has been hosted in the city since 2012.

Thousands of people participate, either in the run or as spectators.

The route passes through downtown streets, something residents want to change.

There is a petition on change.org, with more than 110 signatures, asking local officials to move it out of downtown Ypsilanti.

Many commented on the website, saying the event is an traffic inconvenience and the city is left messy.

City officials support the run saying it brings in a lot economic benefits and the event team has an EPA-sanctioned clean up plan.

One business owner we spoke with never found the event problematic.

Ed Phelphs owns Fast Eddie's Music.  He said, "I don't know if there is another concern except the mess that it makes which to me doesn't seem like a big deal."

Elizabeth Wagner, a first time participant, said, "Some people have said they don't think it's a great thing, I don't really ever get any great reasons why it seems like it would probably be a lot of fun"

Her friend Joanie Recker added, "It's two hours of a Saturday morning - I doubt it is that serious."

And The Color Run is scheduled for June 25.
