Fire crews from several communities responded after reports of a commercial building fire on Hilton just south of I-696 in Ferndale.

A witness told Action News she heard the sound of an explosion and described what appeared to be the roof of the building lifted up into the air as a result of the blast.
It is not clear yet what sparked the fire, according to Ferndale Fire Marshall Brian Batten. One man was inside the building at the time of the reported explosion, According to a witness, he emerged dazed and with burns to his legs. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital. There is no update on his condition.
The fire is under investigation.
