Usually, construction is wrapped up for the season, but right now there are still projects MDOT is trying to complete.
“We still have 696 going on, although the side they are working on we won’t have traffic on that side, it's still one of those things obviously we keep an eye on, and we have to plow the snow off before they can start working there,” said Diane Cross with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Drivers who spoke with 7 Action News say they are not looking forward to adding extra time to their morning commute.
“You get up in the morning and you have to actually put in extra time on top of your extra time,” said Tiarra McGee.
Aside from clearing snow from construction zones, crews will also have to clear up the roads.
“The counties treat the freeways first, so the MDOT roads which are the primary roads that handle the majority of traffic, large volumes, that is the IM and US roads, those are always done first,” said Cross.
A little over a week ago a new law went into effect in Michigan mandating drivers to pull over and slow down at least ten miles per hour for emergency, maintenance, or utility vehicles.
Violators will be subject to a 400 dollar fine.
