Most of the time thieves involved in smash in grabs use a pickup truck, however Sunday morning one thief decided to use a heavy duty construction truck to take down a steel door and a wall at Ice Liquor on Detroit’s west side.

“Disaster, I mean worse than an earthquake,” said the owner of Ice Liquor Ned Thomas.

Surveillance video from the liquor store, located on Warren a few blocks west of Southfield Freeway, shows the truck parked across the street at a gas station at 5:53 Sunday morning. The truck leaves, goes behind the store, and then the cameras short out.

When Thomas arrived to the store around 6:30 a.m. he check the registers to see all the cash was taken.

“Probably they got away with a few thousands but just the constructional damage is worse than whatever they took out of the store,” said Thomas.

Thomas expects to spend thousands to fix the wall, not to mention all the other damage the smash and grab caused.

“It’s something that I’ve seen it all over the news lately the smash and grab it’s crazy I can’t I just don’t understand why we haven’t caught these guys,” said Thomas.

Multiple police department throughout metro Detroit are investigating.
