PORT HURON, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Port Huron Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting at a Pine Grove Avenue McDonald's Saturday.
Around 7:16 a.m., officers responded to a McDonald's on a report of a 21-year-old white man stabbing himself in the parking lot.
The 911 caller notified operators of an attempted carjacking in the McDonald's parking lot before the man started walking south on Pine Grove Avenue.
Officers quickly arrived to the scene and tried to talk to the suspect. Still armed with the knife and covered in blood, police say the suspect "charged the officers in an aggressive manner."
When asked multiple times to drop the knife, the suspect refused.
According to the department, one of the officers shot the suspect multiple times in self-defense. The suspect continued approaching the officers after being shot.
Police say the man was eventually subdued, treated by on-scene EMS then taken a local hospital. He is now in critical but stable condition.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to the department.
