(WXYZ) — Health Departments in Michigan have been inundated with calls and requests for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Gov. Whitmer said on Friday the State of Michigan immediately ships out vaccines as they receive them and that the state is now averaging more than 20,000 doses per day.
She also announced the vaccine will become available on Monday to Michiganders 65 or older, police officers, prison and jail officers, K-12 teachers, and care providers.
This decision drew criticism from local officials who don't have sufficient supply to offer to residents who want the vaccine.
Whitmer said that the state is receiving about 60,000 vaccines a week from Pfizer while Moderna vaccines bypass them and ship directly to CVS and Walgreens to be administered each week across 207 locations.
She called once again on the federal government for a national strategy to be put in place to help speed along the process.

The following are eligible to receive the vaccine at TCF in Detroit:
- Any Detroit resident 75 and older
- Any “good neighbor" 65 and older who drives a 75-year-old to TCF
- Group B essential workers, including K-12 teachers and child care workers
