DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel announced that it will close soon for all nonessential personnel, including regular travelers.
As of noon Wednesday, the tunnel remains open.
The closure will not affect trade or workers deemed "essential."
At this point, it is currently unknown when exactly the tunnel will close.
On Wednesday morning, the U.S. and Canada agreed to close the border amid the outbreak.
The Blue Water Bridge and the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie will remain open to essential traffic and commercial goods. It's expected that 'essential traffic' will be clarified and shared with the public soon.
