(WXYZ) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer says her decision on allowing high school sports and reopening gyms, bowling alleys, and movie theaters will be coming “soon.”

The MHSAA in a statement said they will hold her to that “soon.”

Gyms, bowling alleys, and movie theaters have been closed since March under the Governor’s Executive Orders with a few exceptions from business owners challenging her.

Greg Grant is a 6'10" small businessman who owns the Greg Grant Basketball and Training Center in Sterling Heights. He says being forced to stay closed is “horrible.”

He reopened for two weeks in July only to be forced back out of the game by the Michigan Attorney General. He has a lawsuit pending to reopen.

He says two other similar sports centers are open.

“That’s a tough pill to swallow,” he says.

Grant showed us how he has prepared his center to reopen safely with limited people allowed in as spectators sitting on their own lawn chairs with social distancing. The bleachers and drinking fountains will not be used. Hand sanitizers have been installed and masks will be required. Grant showed us pictures showing how popular his center is with 8 seasons a year and thousands of people in training. The Governor was asked why she allowed Detroit’s 3 casinos to reopen with 15% capacity but not these other businesses.

She says there have been “ample pieces of evidence” that if not done appropriately, they can be “spreaders” of the virus.
