DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit nonprofit is planning several events to assist Detroiters in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seva4Everybody, comprised of members from the Sikh community, has partnered with other local nonprofits to provide funds and resources to communities in need.

The nonprofit has raised more than $3,000 for Detroit organizations, and has several events planned over the next two weeks to further assist Detroiters in need.

The events include distributing water to Detroit residents who have had their water shut off and providing groceries and hot meals with New Era Detroit.

"It is a mandate for Sikhs to stand with the oppressed," Director of Operations Harman Singh said. "Not in word, but in action. We will be in our community, feeding our people and standing with them against racism and violence. This is in our DNA, and it is embedded in our philosophy. We do not believe in community service, we believe in liberation and equity."
