(WXYZ) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer urged state residents to stay home this holiday season.

"Just one infection can cause an outbreak in your community," Whitmer said.

She urged Michiganders to take action to protect themselves along with the "brave women and men" on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Although hope is on the horizon, Whitmer said, due to vaccines being administered, Michiganders can't "take our eyes of the ball now."

She said residents have to continue to do their part to protect one another.
