MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Macomb County announced a new indoor COVID-19 drive-thru testing site.

Beginning Dec. 14, residents can get tested at the former location of Baker College, located at Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township.

The county's former site was offered in the parking lot of the former Macomb County Juvenile Court Building in Mount Clemens.

"We have received many complimentary emails and see positive posts about how easy the entire process is on social media," County Executive Mark A. Hackel said in a press release. "We have every reason to believe that our new testing site will be just as easy for everyone who wants to be tested."

Testing will continue to be offered Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary and individuals without symptoms of COVID-19 can be tested. There is no cost for testing, and a prescription is not required.

As part of the testing process, people must remain in their vehicles from the time they arrive until they depart, and a face mask must be worn.

“Not only is our new drive-through testing location centrally located, it also provides relief from the winter weather for our staff and those that come to be tested," said William Ridella, director/health officer of the Macomb County Health Department. “This allows us to be able to offer the safety and convenience of drive-through testing, as well as the benefits of better shelter and temperature control.”

The county says it is also prepared for the forthcoming COVID-19 vaccine. Officials say Macomb County is ready to support the distribution of immunizations to St. Clair County and other neighboring jurisdictions.
