(WXYZ) — Michigan reported 616 new cases of COVID-19 and 9 new death on Wednesday.

This brings the total number of cases to 94,278 since the pandemic began in March and 6,349 deaths in total.

As of Aug. 14, a cumulative total of 67,778 have recovered from the virus in the state.

On Friday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the state is seeing a plateau in COVID-19 cases, but there is still more work to be done.

Whitmer said that despite being one of the hardest-hit states during the pandemic, Michigan's average infection rate last month was half that of Ohio, Indian, and Wisconsin.
