Michigan reports 8,983 new COVID-19 cases, 265 deaths over 3-day period

(WXYZ) — Michigan reported 8,983 new cases of COVID-19 and 265 more deaths over a three-day period, according to the latest statistics from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Saturday's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since Wednesday, Dec. 30, the state said. Over three days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday – the average number of new confirmed cases is about 2,994 per day.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 497,127 and the total number of deaths to 12,598 in Michigan.

As of Dec. 23, 318,389 people have recovered from the virus, according to the MDHHS.

More than 330,000 vaccines have been distributed throughout the state, and more than 71,000 vaccines have been administered to Michiganders so far.
