(WXYZ) — Scrolling social media right now seems to show more negative than positive things. But it can be just as easy to get sucked into it for hours.
Psychologists refer to it as doom-scrolling. They say it can take a toll on your mental health – and even change your perspective on the real world.
But they have some suggestions to try and prevent this:
- Set a timer on your social media use so you're not on too long.
- Stay aware.
- Remind yourself why you opened an app in the first place – and if you've already found what you were looking for.
- Lastly, be mindful of what you share.
Posting something positive can make you feel positive and even have a ripple effect on others.
