ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Royal Oak is giving people 30 minutes of free parking at their on-street parking meters.
The move is in response to Governor Whitmer's Executive Order closing restaurants to dine-in customers. It will allow patrons to park near restaurants so they can take advantage of curbsize pick-up and delivery.
“The Royal Oak City Commission has empowered city staff to make necessary changes to quickly adapt as the situation we are facing continues to evolve,” said Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue in a new release. “Royal Oak has the best restaurants and bars in the state, and we wanted to make it easier for people to get a delicious meal as we all adjust to the new normal.”
The free 30-minute parking applies to all downtown streets. Parking garages are free for two hours when you arrive before 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. Parking lot parking has not been changed.
Parkingis free all day throughout downtown Royal Oak on Sundays.
